Positive about Disabled People
Staffordshire Police is proud to display the positive about disability two ticks symbol which demonstrates our commitment to the recruitment and retention of people with disabilities.
We will make reasonable adjustment to all stages of the recruitment process and to our jobs in order to make them more accessible to applicants who have a disability. If you need us to make any adjustments, for example to provide information in large print or to use a signer at interview, please ask us.
We have been accredited by Jobcentre Plus to use the two tick symbol by agreeing to make the following five commitments:
- To interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and to consider them on their abilities.
This is to encourage disabled people to apply for jobs by offering an assurance that should they meet the minimum criteria they will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at interview stage.
- To discuss with disabled employees, at any time but at least once a year, what both parties can do to make sure disabled employees can develop and use their abilities.
This is to ensure that our disabled employees are getting the same opportunities as others to develop and progress within their job.
- To make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment.
This is to make sure that our employees know that should they become disabled, they will have our support to enable them to continue in their current job or an alternative one.
- To take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work.
This is to provide awareness of issues to all staff in order to improve the working environment.
- To review these commitments each year and assess what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans.
This is to make sure we monitor our own practices and achievements and identify areas for further progress.
We have a number of support associations set up to help and advise employees including Staffordshire Police Disability Support Group.
