Completing the application form You are asked to provide evidence that you have the essential skills required for this role in the supporting information section of the application form.
Paper sifting
Your application form and supporting information will be assessed to see if you meet the standard required to be invited to interview.
Competency-based interview The interview is competency based and looks at whether you have the skills and experience needed to carry out your role.
Job related fitness test All applicants must be able to run along a 15 metre track, without stopping and at gradually increasing speed, for approximately three-and-a-half minutes. Short-listed candidates can attend a job-related fitness test familiarisation session to see if they meet this requirement before taking the official test.
Medical examination You will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire and eyesight report form to return to our occupational health department. We will contact your GP if we need more information from them before you are invited to attend for an examination. You must also meet a minimum eyesight standard.
Recruitment vetting checks Security checks and financial checks will be carried out and satisfactory references will be needed before any appointment is made. We take references for the five-year period before the application from employers or educational establishments as appropriate. Referees are also asked to provide details of any sickness absence in the last three years.
Offer of employment Once all these stages are successfully completed, we will make a formal offer of employment advising you of your start date.
Starting employment as a PCSOYou will need to attend a four-week training course on a full-time basis.
